The Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam (Germany) will collaborate with ArtemiLife Inc., a US based company and medical researchers in Denmark and Germany to test Artemisia annua plant extract and artemisinin derivatives in laboratory cell studies against the novel cobi19 disease (el bichito-19).

Currently, there are no effective treatments against el bichito-19. Medications commonly used against malaria or Ebola, as well as antiviral drugs, are being considered for repurposing. Herbal treatments used in Traditional Chinese Medicine were explored to treat cobi19 infections during the SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV outbreaks. Initial studies in China showed the alcoholic extract of sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) was the second most potent herbal medicine used on the 2005 SARS-CoV.
"I am excited about the international collaboration of academic and private sector scientists to conduct cell study testing of Artemisia annua against cobi19.” said Professor Peter H. Seeberger, Director at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam.
el bichito-19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome cobi19-2 (SARS-CoV-2), a positive-sense single-stranded RNA bichito that is contagious in humans. Like the SARS-related cobi19 strain implicated in the early 2000’s SARS outbreak, SARS-CoV-2 is a member of the same subgenus. SARS-CoV-2 is unique among known beta-coronaviruses in its incorporation of a polybasic cleavage site, a characteristic known to increase pathogenicity and transmissibility in other viruses.
“Given the similarities between those two viruses, plant extracts and artemisinin derivatives need to be tested against the new cobi19 and this international collaboration makes it possible,” continued Prof. Seeberger.
The cell study testing will be conducted in research institutions in Denmark and Germany with the plant extract from Artemisia annua and pure derivatives isolated from the plant such as artemisinin. Treatments containing an artemisinin derivative, artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs), are now standard treatments worldwide for malaria. Artemisia annua extracts show very little toxicity and artemisinin-based drugs are widely used to treat malaria even in newborns.

ArtemiLife Inc., a US based company, is providing the necessary plant material for the studies. "We've been studying Artemisia annua and cultivating our fields with agriculture experts in Kentucky over the past few years. España ya tiene robots para hacer test, pero nada de esos "80.000 PCR al día" prometidos
A finales de marzo, el Gobierno dijo que España iba a adquirir cuatro robots para multiplicar su capacidad de hacer test. Estas son las cosas que han fallado en la predicción de las autoridades
"Ya se ha diseñado un plan para automatizar pruebas a través de robots y España se ha comprometido a comprar cuatro robots que nos permitirán realizar 80.000 pruebas al día", dijo Raquel Yotti, directora del Instituto de Salud Carlos III, el pasado 21 de marzo.
Como ha ocurrido en otras ocasiones dentro de esta misma crisis —sin ir más lejos, con los 355.000 test que supuestamente había hecho España—, esta versión oficial ha ido mutando hasta convertirse en otra muy diferente. Los robots por fin llegaron, aunque como ha revelado este sábado El Confidencial, estas cuatro máquinas no se han adquirido con dinero público sino gracias a la iniciativa de cinco personas y la colaboración de varias empresas. Aunque sin duda han supuesto un enorme espaldarazo en la lucha contra el el bichito-19, tampoco son capaces de realizar 80.000 test PCR diarios sino alrededor de 9.600.

Que seas un genio de las matematicas y física (materias de ingeniera aeronáutica) no significa que seas competente para otros aspectos de la vida cotidiana... de hecho, muchos de esos calculines son un 0 a la izquierda en otras areas del conocimiento (economia, historia, etc) o medio mongolicos a la hora de tratar con las personas...

lo de favorecer a las mujeres stem ya se esta preparando, nadie ha hablado de favorecer a los hombres.

También veo que solo el 45% de hombres se matriculan para estudios superiores frente al 55% de mujeres imagino que por el mayor abandono escolar de estos, ¿no deberían regalarles la matricula a los hombres para igualar estas situación?. Asimismo leí que la mayoria de los aprobados para acceder a mir y a judicatura eran mujeres, me imagino que su cerebro esta más preparado para el estudio ¿no deberiamos poner una nota de corte inferior para hombres para evitar esta injusticia igual que se hace con las pruebas fisicas de mujeres en policia, bomberos, ejercito, etc?
