Gist of TEPCO plan to end Fukushima nuke crisis

TOKYO, April 17, Kyodo

The amowing is the gist of steps Tokyo Electric Power Co. announced Sunday that it will take to bring under control the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant hit by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

TEPCO aims to achieve:

STEP 1 (In roughly three months)

-- Filling containment vessels of Nos. 1, 3 reactors with water.

-- Sealing with sticky cement part in No. 2 reactor's containment vessel believed breached.

-- Injecting nitrogen into Nos. 2, 3 reactors to avoid possible hydrogen explosion.

-- Restoring circulatory cooling system for spent fuel pools.

-- Installing facility to decontaminate highly tainted water and purify seawater.

STEP 2 (In roughly six to nine months)

-- Bringing reactors into stable condition known as 'cold shutdown.'

-- Blanketing buildings housing Nos. 1, 3, 4 reactors with covering.

MIDTERM GOALS

-- Extracting fuel assemblies from pools holding spent fuel.

-- Covering reactor buildings with containers, such as those using concrete.

Hola, esto puede ser un poco off-topic pero ayer estuve viendo la peli “Codigo Fuente” en la cual uno de los personajes, un tipo al mando de un experimento de el ejercito, tenia un marcado carácter irresponsable casi psicopatico en la linea de la actitud que vemos constantemente en los responsables de cualquiera de las situaciones que se vienen denunciando en este foro.

Lo curioso es que hace un rato leyendo una entrevista con el director de la peli Duncan Jones hace mención en que para este personaje se inspiro viendo el documental “The nuclear boy scout” que cuenta como un chaval de 17 años se construyo en su casa un pequeño reactor nuclear que encima no funciono bien y acabo contaminando gran parte de el área en que vivia. Cuando el Gobierno le descubrió y le pregunto por qué lo había hecho,el muchacho respondió: “porque puedo”. No tenía ningún sentido de la responsabilidad y por lo visto tal y como comenta Duncan Jones el chaval en el documental sigue mostrando una irresponsabilidad que asusta.

Buscando información sobre el chaval he encontrado este blog que ademas de contar un poco la historia comenta con videos incluso como hasta ahora se conoce la existencia de al menos 18 reactores caseros :ouch:

Gracias por la info, muy intersante, yo había oído hace tiempo lo de este chico, pero no sabía hasta qué punto había llegado. Me ha recordado a un episodio de 'Más allá del límite' titulado 'Examen final' (4x16)

Yo la conclusión que saqué al verlo (hace ya muchos años), fue que hay descubrimientos que son inevitables una vez que se da el marco adecuado de conocimientos. Así que aunque el primer descubridor lo mantenga en secreto antes o después mucha gente lo irá redescubriendo. Es decir, que si hay o habrá una forma asequible de hacer una superbomba, ese conocimiento terminara llegado a alguien capaz de usarla...

Pues no se detecta nada, simplemente los electrones acelerados por el tubo de imagen no tienen suficiente energia para provocar rayos X secundarios y por lo tanto no crean radiación ionizante.
