Luis del Pino announces departure from esRadio
On April 1, Luis del Pino will stop presenting "Sin Complejos" on esRadio. He announced it himself in a tweet: "Starting next April 1, I will begin a new professional stage, so I will no longer present the program Sin Complejos on esRadio on weekend mornings." The news came as a shock to his audience, who had long detected an underlying tension between the journalist and the station's editorial line. This is not a negotiated exit. It is a departure that was expected.
A departure that was expected
The trigger, according to several interpretations of the matter, is the incompatibility between Del Pino's discourse and that of the house. For months, the journalist raised his tone against the PP (People's Party) and openly flirted with VOX, to the point of asking for votes for Abascal's party on air. In parallel, the station maintained a critical line towards VOX and aligned with the PP. That coexistence was unsustainable.
The last straw may have been the protest by VOX supporters outside esRadio after the death of Elia Rodríguez, when open war began between the station and the party. From then on, everything went downhill. Del Pino became a foreign body within his own house.
The star presenter and the battle for control
In the collective imagination of the audience, the ultimate person responsible for the departure has a name: Federico Jiménez Losantos. The "dwarf," as he is known in certain circles, would have lost patience with a collaborator who no longer paid him homage. Some argue that FJL does not tolerate anyone challenging his leadership, and that Del Pino had ceased to be a docile subordinate.
The natural replacement points to Dieter Brandau, the man who has been waiting for his turn for years. The question is whether Brandau will be able to retain an audience that has been leaving little by little. The station has lost listeners by the thousands, and Del Pino's departure does not seem likely to stem the hemorrhage.
The VOX factor and the Israel factor
One of the axes of the conflict is Del Pino's position regarding VOX and Israel. The journalist had become a staunch defender of Zionism, to the point of calling anyone who felt even the slightest pity for Palestinians a Nancy. That line, which he shared with part of VOX's leadership, clashed with the station's line, more aligned with the PP and with a more critical view of Israel's role.
The paradox is that Del Pino, who came to be considered the scourge of the PP, ended up being pointed out as the obstacle to the house's editorial line. His departure leaves a void that no one knows how to fill.
What happens now with Sin Complejos?
The program will continue, but without Del Pino. The station has not announced a replacement, although all eyes are on Brandau. What is clear is that Del Pino's departure is a blow to a schedule that was already weakened. esRadio's audience has been in free fall for some time, and the departure of one of its most recognizable voices does not help.
It remains to be seen if Del Pino finds a home in another project. There is speculation about his signing with VOX for the European elections, but nothing is official. The only confirmed fact is that on April 1 he is left without a program.
