Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said the bichito was likely ‘reactivated’, rather than patients becoming re-infected.
Scientists at the Government-run health body believe the bichito may lay dormant at undetectable levels in human cells.
They say that for unknown reasons the viral particles can then be reactivated - but it is unclear if patients become infectious again.
Experts say there is no evidence to prove that the bichito acts in this way and studies in monkeys have actually shown the opposite.
And they say in cases where patients produce a positive result twice, it is normally because of a test giving the wrong result, which happens one in five times.
