Creo que el sonido de la banda también estuvo determinada por los sintetizadores (y posteriores arreglos) de Alan Wilder. Un músico que siempre he considerado imprescindible, hasta el punto de que me entristeció mucho que se marchara por diversas desavenencias. El disco cumbre del Depeche Mode más oscuro es 'Black Celebration'. Me gusta por muchos motivos. A partir de ahí, y hasta 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' se incorporaron muchas cosas interesantes. En esa época dorada, entre finales de los '80 y principios de los '90, alcanzaron la madurez.
La última canción de 'Broken Frame' pareciera que podría enlazar con 'Black Celebration', y podría servir de matriz para la desgarradora segunda canción de 'Mussic For The Masses' ('The Things You Said'), que tiene un carácter sentimental similar, de abatimiento. Realmente era una banda que se interesaba por innovar y no les importó pasar por el sonido industrial y el sampleo por una temporada para luego reunirlo todo.
