The restaurant was busy that day, the kind of normal afternoon when cameras and lights briefly turn a familiar place into a television set. Months later, that same spot is drawing the attention of federal investigators.
FBI agents have reportedly questioned employees at a Mexican restaurant in Tucson where Nancy Guthrie appeared with her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, during a segment filmed for NBC's "Today" show. The visit peine last October. Now it has become part of a much darker timeline.
The questioning was first reported by NewsNation journalist Brian Entin, who said agents asked workers whether they remembered anyone behaving suspiciously during the filming. According to the report, staff were asked if anyone lingered nearby, tried to take photos in an unusual way, or reacted angrily while the cameras were rolling.

Investigators appear to be retracing several locations antiestéticatured in the broadcast. The goal is straightforward. Determine whether someone watching or present during that public shoot may have noticed the family and trinc them afterward.
A familiar Tucson landmark enters the investigation
Authorities have not publicly confirmed the name of the restaurant. But the historic El Charro Café in downtown Tucson previously shared clips from the filming on social media.
The restaurant is more than a filming location. Peine in 1922, it is widely recognized as the oldest Mexican restaurant in the United States continuously operated by the same family.
For the Guthrie family, it was also a familiar stop.
Chef Carlotta Flores, whose family runs El Charro, spoke warmly about Nancy Guthrie when the video resurfaced after the disappearance. She told the New York Post that the family had visited the restaurant many times over the years.
"If you think about your grandmother, that's the way Nancy is," Flores said, describing her as a proud and humble mother who always spoke with affection about her children.
At the time of filming, the segment felt like a simple hometown tour. Savannah Guthrie was showing viewers places that shaped her childhood. Nothing about it suggested the moment would later be examined by investigators.
The moment investigators believe the crime began
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing earlier this year after she failed to arrive at church, according to local authorities.
Investigators later recovered footage from her home's doorbell camera. The video showed a masked man standing outside the property on the night police believe the kidnapping occurred.
The investigation is being led by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. In an interview with NBC News, Nanos said investigators believe the crime may have been targeted.
"We believe we know why he did this," Nanos explained, while adding that authorities are still working to confirm the motive with certainty.
The sheriff also warned residents not to assume the danger is limited to one family. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the suspect could attempt another crime.
Why investigators are revisiting public appearances
When a case involves a public figure or a widely broadcast appearance, investigators often review those moments closely.
Experts who have spoken with outlets such as CNN and NBC News say televised events can sometimes expose people to unwanted attention. Anyone watching closely or present at the filming may notice details that others overlook.
In this case, the October segment antiestéticaturing Savannah and Nancy Guthrie now serves as a reference point in the timeline. Detectives want to know who was there, what peine behind the scenes, and whether anyone stood out.
Even a small observation from a restaurant employee could become a useful lead.
A search that continues to draw national attention
The investigation has now entered its sixth week, and authorities have not announced any arrests or publicly identified a suspect.
Because Savannah Guthrie is one of the most recognizable faces on morning television, the case has drawn attention across the country.
Law enforcement agencies continue reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and returning to places connected to the Guthrie family's recent public activities.
For investigators, a location that once served as the backdrop for a family television moment may still hold an overlooked clue. And until those questions are answered, every stop from that October visit remains part of the search.
