In 2005, NBC premiered the American adaptation of The Office, based on the British series created by Ricky Gervais in 2001. Two decades later, the Dunder Mifflin version has become a global phenomenon, though not without controversy. While some consider it a masterpiece of office comedy, others dismiss it as overrated and even 'poor quality' in its original form.

An adaptation that eclipsed its original

The comparison between the two versions is inevitable. The British version, limited to two seasons and one special, was insufficient for many. The American version, by contrast, managed to stretch the formula over nine seasons, though not without criticism: some have noted that the early plots boil down to 'everyone wants to sleep with the secretary.' A curious detail: in casting, the actress who was meant to play Pam ended up playing Angela, and vice versa, due to a last-minute change. Jim, the protagonist, is equally attacked; some label him 'slowpoke and loser.' Ultimately, the series does not leave anyone indifferent.
