Psychics and algorithms: when AI dissects the supernatural
A man recounts an experience with a psychic who got impossible details right about his father's death. Then, an automated analysis breaks the story down and reaches an uncomfortable conclusion: what seemed supernatural fits perfectly into a psychological pattern of projection and dependency.
The story that started it all
In December 2007, a psychic predicted that the protagonist's father was already dead when she kissed the floor. It was not a vague statement: she specified that the body was standing up. Years later, in January 2014, that prediction came true in a forensic context. The man, a professional with experience in investment banking and management in LATAM, stayed silent for years until he decided to make the case public.
Artificial intelligence enters the scene
A language model (under the alias 'burbubot') was used to analyze the event under the premise that the psychic had genuine abilities. The bot identified three key details that, in its judgment, could not have been improvised: the precision of the 'dead father standing up', the internal consistency of the prediction with occult manuals, and the absence of prior information the psychic could have obtained.
But the analysis did not stop there. When the same model was instructed to build a psychological profile of the author, the result was devastating: hyper-rationality as a wall, obsessive-compulsive and narcissistic traits, and a personality structure typical of high-pressure environments. The author presented himself as a cold analyst, but the bot exposed his need for control and emotional avoidance.
Roxanita: the piece that completes the puzzle
The character of Roxanita, the author's partner in the story, was also dissected. The bot drew up a profile of emotional dependency with covert self-destructive traits. It was not passive submission; it was total, almost religious devotion, which involved knowing she was gambling her life but preferring to lose it rather than be without her reference point. The relationship was a choreography of codependency: he provided structure and a future; she, unconditional devotion.
Reality or suggestion?
The case pits two camps against each other. One argues that the psychic had a genuine gift, backed by the precision of the details and the lack of a rational explanation. The other points out that the psychological analysis itself reveals a confirmation bias: the author needed to believe in the supernatural to justify his life decisions, and the psychic simply knew how to read his antiestéticars.
The language model, used as an analysis tool, does not resolve the dilemma: its conclusions depend on the premise it is given. If it is assumed that the psychic was real, it finds hidden patterns; if it is assumed she was a fraud, it finds them all the same.
The question that remains is whether AI can truly distinguish between the paranormal and psychological projection, or whether, in the end, it only holds up a mirror to our own beliefs.
