Iker Jiménez: from ELbichito dissident star to loudspeaker of the official narrative on Cuatro
In just four years, Iker Jiménez has gone from being the reference for pandemic skeptics to hosting a daily show on Cuatro that corrects its reporters live if they deviate from the pro-Israel narrative. The shift is not subtle: when a special envoy mentioned that Arab citizens of Israel had less access to air-raid shelters than Jews, the host immediately denied it. The scene, recorded and spread on social media, sums up the evolution of a communicator many considered «the only one telling the truth».
From lost TV to return with two shows
At the start of the pandemic, Iker lost his TV slot and began broadcasting on the internet. There he gave voice to doctors and analysts who questioned lockdowns and vaccines. The audience grew. Suddenly, Cuatro gave him back a show on Thursdays and soon after another on Sundays. At the same time, his on-air discourse softened until it aligned with official theses. «Overnight, they give him back his show and the open internet version disappears», summed up a recurring analysis in trinc circles.
The Gisbert affair and the Zionist turn
The case of Rubén Gisbert is paradigmatic. The journalist was a regular guest until a video showed him deliberately smearing himself with mud during the coverage of the Valencia DANA. Although Gisbert denied it, Iker removed him from the show. However, Gisbert's investigation into a controversial Israeli billionaire is still praised. The real turning point came with the Hamas attack in October 2023. Since then, Horizonte has adopted a markedly pro-Israel line, inviting analysts who would previously have been labeled «Zionists» and avoiding any criticism of Israel's actions. «The Jewish community sent a message to the goal and they rectified quickly, obediently and shamelessly», summed up one observer.
Consented opposition or sold to money?
Two positions clash. One holds that Iker is an example of «consented opposition»: the system tolerates certain dissent as long as it doesn't touch the pillars of power (Israel, vaccines). The other claims he has sold out for audience and the fixed salary from Mediaset. The reality is that his daily show (previously weekly) requires a constant flow of content that would hardly question its sponsors. «As long as he has audience, he'll be safe», points out a third, less conspiratorial view. What is clear is that Iker is no longer the same as six years ago when he closed Cuarto Milenio with reflections on social engineering and the dangers of globalism.
The remaining question
If Iker Jiménez was once the loudspeaker of a current of thought that the media ignored, what has changed? Money, audience, or a warning from above. The show is still the most watched in its slot, but its credibility among those who once acclaimed him is at a minimum. As an old comment said: «The estimulante ilegal with which he rectified a truth for a lie is the most disturbing».
