Free natal charts that ended in a retreat with a divine message

Interpreting a natal chart for a stranger requires handling houses, rulers, dignities and fixed stars. Someone did it for free, charging no one, and still ended up quitting. The paradox isn't in the price, but in the outcome: the same person who deciphered others' destinies announced she was stopping reading the future because she got bored and now spends her time worshipping God.

How to offer astrological chart readings for free

The offer was simple: interpret the natal chart in exchange for a brief review. No payment. The person behind it repeated it several times —"They're not clients, I didn't charge any of them"— and made clear her profession was something else, with astrology as a mere pastime. Volunteers started sending their charts, some openly and others by private message, and the readings piled up over months. To calculate them, two reference websites were recommended, one focused on the natal chart. There were also those who joked that these consultations could be monetized and that those requesting them are easily manipulated. The answer was no. Anyone who arrived with an incomplete chart —without an exact time— was warned that the Moon and houses change, and that without that data only very basic readings are possible.

Houses, rulers and fixed stars: the method

The reading was based on traditional astrology. Each of the twelve houses has a ruler, the planet governing the sign occupying it, and its cosmic state —domicile, exaltation, exile or fall— completely changes the interpretation. The ascendant marks the life mission and the midheaven, profession and status. With the Sun near the ascendant and the Moon near the midheaven, a person destined to shine was declared; with five planets in domicile or exaltation, qualities to succeed. A Sun in Leo at degree 29, next to the star Regulus, was read as brilliance and renown. So far everything fits. Then, according to her own account, Regulus changed degree in 2012: she asked its owner if he had noticed anything that year. Other stars cited: Alphecca, Spica and Deneb Algedi.

Synastry: couple compatibility according to the charts

To measure the fit between two people, synastry was used, the overlay of two charts. According to this criterion, the conjunction of one's Sun with the other's Moon is associated with marriage or, at least, a good relationship, and trines work the same. The north node is considered benefic and the south, malefic: it attracts but stagnates. The conjunction of Mars and Venus, even in square, is read as attraction. With a chart without a time, the reading was limited to the type of partner attracted and the traits admired. One couple took it for granted: "we are made for each other".

Why an astrologer stops reading natal charts

The readings stopped abruptly. First, a deadline: up to a certain point in the conversation, no more. Then, the definitive closure. The message was blunt: "I no longer read anyone's future, I got bored. I devote myself to worshipping God." Anyone who asked later was referred to do the same. The turn wasn't preceded by any announced crisis: the retreat was presented as boredom and accompanied by a religious invitation. There were, however, derogatory messages and mockery along the way, and some responses that assumed the consultation was still open when it had already ended.

The tug-of-war between astrology and astronomy

In parallel, a deeper debate slipped in: astrology needs astronomy. The reasoning is that the simplest calculation requires knowing planetary positions and that the usual criticism confuses one discipline with the other, treating the latter as superstition. Regarding Ophiuchus, the clarification was that it is a constellation, not a sign: signs are twelve 30-degree arcs measured from the point where the ecliptic cuts the equator. And regarding the Moon, the claim that its mansions are governed by genies, some described as demonic entities, and that it serves as a channel of communication with them. None of that comes with any proof.

The consultation ended with unread charts and an invitation to pray. Those who arrived late were left without their interpretation. Can you decipher a stranger's destiny for months and then suddenly stop believing one exists?
