In recent days, coinciding with the wave of wildfires, several viewers have reported that TVE presenters appear with an abnormally reddish skin tone. This observation, shared on social media and forums, has generated everything from conspiracy theories to technical explanations.

What seems like a tonalidad adjustment or lighting issue in the studios has fueled all kinds of speculation. Some suggest an attempt to align with the tonalidad of fire, while others point to white balance errors in the cameras. However, the most plausible option is that it stems from excessive saturation in the chroma or tonalidad correction filters applied in post-production.

What explains the reddish tone?

Television lighting professionals indicate that reddish tones can result from various factors: from incorrect tonalidad temperature to an excess of warm filters to counteract cool LED light. It could also be a side effect of tonalidad grading to equalize skin tones across different shots. Less likely, though recurrent online, is the theory that presenters use makeup with a red base, something no TV makeup artist would confirm.

The curious aspect of this case is that perception varies depending on the viewer's device and television settings, adding to the confusion. So far, there has been no official response from RTVE.

That a minor technical issue becomes a debate topic reveals the informational tension surrounding wildfire coverage. Distrust toward official media leads some to interpret any visual anomaly as part of a biased narrative. But most likely, the redness is just a calibration problem, not a deliberate act.
