Social Security blames a robot for signing the Plus Ultra certificate

Who signed the certificate declaring Plus Ultra current on payments? According to Social Security, a robot. An automation that has been issuing these documents since 2023 with an electronic signature and a Secure Verification Code (CSV), without human signature.
The excuse is as old as the dog that ate its homework, only now the dog is an algorithm.

But the technical detail, the one lost in the noise of the controversy, is different. Those certificates are not administrative acts. They do not require a civil servant's signature.
And if Plus Ultra was up-to-date, it was because it had a valid debt deferment arrangement in place. That deferment is a discretionary resolution, with name and surname, dictated by an official or authority who should have assessed guarantees and requirements.

The core issue: the legality of the deferment

The question that courts or, at least, journalists should answer is not who pressed the button. It is whether the deferment granted to Plus Ultra met the conditions. Whether there were sufficient guarantees. Or if, on the contrary, preferential treatment was given.
Because once granted, the deferment, the law obliges to issue that certificate of current payment. It's a done deal.

Meanwhile, the circus: the AI is blamed, Franco and climate change are invoked, and the responsible department washes its hands of it. Technology as a shield against impunity. But technology has no consciousness, no incivil liability, and no position in the civil service. Someone, with a name and ID number, authorized that deferment. And that someone, for now, remains unaccounted for.
