Europe's Tijuana: Crime Rises 2.6% in Madrid During First Half of Year; Sexual Offenses and Drug Trafficking Up

The crime rate in the Community of Madrid registered an increase of 2.6% during the first half of 2026, driven by a rise in sensual offenses and drug trafficking. The city of Madrid also experienced an increase of 1.1%.

The **Community of Madrid** saw total crime growing by **2.6%** in the first half of 2026, compared to the same period last year. This increase is mainly supported by the rise in crimes against sensual liberty, drug trafficking, and also an increase in serious and minor injuries and brawls.

## Sensual Offenses and Drugs on the Rise

Crimes against sensual liberty increased by **9.3%**, rising from **1,578** to **1,724** cases. Drug trafficking, for its part, experienced an even greater resurgence, with a **30.5%** increase, moving from **2,034** to **2,655** reports. Brawls also contributed an additional **200** reports, representing an **11.4%** increase.

## Other Crimes and Cybercrime

Not all news is bad. Crimes such as burglaries (burglary in homes and establishments) and pickpocketing experienced a decrease of **3.4%** and **2.3%**, respectively. However, vehicle theft did increase by **6.1%**, totaling **3,512** reports in the region. Cybercrime, as a whole, escalated by **4.5%**, with almost **90%** of these offenses being computer scams, which rose by **7.6%**.

## The Capital City Also Sees Upswings

In the **city of Madrid**, crime has risen by **1.1%** in the first six months of the year, exceeding **99,000** reports. The crimes that have increased most in percentage are attempted kidnappings (**75%** more), attempted homicides (**52.8%** more), and drug trafficking (**36.6%** more). Crimes against sensual liberty also increased by **7.5%**, although specific rapes decreased by **2.8%**. Robberies with violence and intimidation, on the other hand, have fallen by **1.9%**.
