AI comes to forums as an alternative... or as a new form of control
The fact that a forum promoted as a space for real, alternative information is incorporating artificial intelligence to generate content is not just a contradiction: it mirrors how technology is used to maintain the status quo. While users debate whether the bot manipulates or indoctrinates, the real question is whether we have ever had freedom of expression on platforms where the owner always sets the line.
Tool or control?
The classic argument that "AI is just a tool" falls apart when it is the administrator who controls it. The owner of the hammer decides where to drive the nail, and the algorithm decides which content gets priority. In a space that prides itself on being alternative, delegating to a bot that repeats the official line is, at the very least, ironic. Users who defend AI's neutrality forget that the bias comes from the hand that programs it.
The same old noise
The debate gets tangled up in accusations of applauding or protesting at key moments, but the bottom line is the same: while some argue, the one in charge counts the money. AI is just the latest bait to divert attention from what matters: control of the message and data collection. Amid the noise, real information is still out on the street, in supermarket prices, and in the face we make when paying the mortgage.
The paradox of the alternative
If an alternative forum resorts to the same tools as the mainstream media, what sets it apart? The uncomfortable answer is that, in practice, nothing. The promise of originality and real information clashes with the reality of a bot that repeats the same speeches. Freedom of expression remains a luxury, conditional on not touching the powers that be, whether public or private.
The question left hanging is whether the next step will be for AI to decide who speaks and who stays silent, or whether it is already doing so.
