Nederlandse staat koopt ook ABN Amro

AMSTERDAM - De Belgische en Luxemburgse overheden verkopen Fortis inclusief ABN Amro aan de Nederlandse staat. Dat zei de Belgische premier Yves Leterme vrijdag tijdens een persconferentie in Brussel. De overeenkomst heeft een waarde van 16,8 miljard euro, aldus Leterme.

Het betreft een tijdelijke maatregel. Nadat de rust in het financiële stelsel is teruggekeerd, zullen de instellingen worden doorverkocht aan privépartijen. Het operationele management blijft voorlopig hetzelfde.

Los gobiernos belga y luxemburgés venden Fortis inclusive ABN AMRO al gobierno holandés. Lo dijo el ministro belga Yves Leterme durante una conferencia de prensa en Bruselas. El valor total de la venta asciende a 16,8 billones de Euros, según Leterme.
Se trata de una medida temporal. Después de que haya vuelto al calma en el mercado financiero, se volverá a vender a particulares. El management operacional no cambiará.

ABN no era el que iba o habia comprado santander, o eso anunciaba cuando puso el año pasado sus convertibles a la venta?, Si compró en su día habrá perdido muchas pelas, con lo que la subida de hoy no tendría mucha razón de ser no?

Fortis Sells Dutch Businesses to Netherlands for EU16.8 Billion

Oct. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Fortis, the Dutch-Belgian bank bailed out this week, will sell its businesses in the Netherlands, including its share in ABN Amro Holding NV, to the Dutch government for 16.8 billion euros ($23 billion).

``Further steps proved necessary,'' Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende told a press conference in The Hague today. The Netherlands will buy Fortis Bank Nederland Holding NV, Fortis Insurance Netherlands NV and Fortis Corporate Insurance NV, and becomes owner of Fortis's holding in ABN AMRO Holding NV.

The Dutch government on Sept. 28 agreed in Brussels to pay 4 billion euros for a 49 percent stake in Fortis's Dutch banking unit to restore investor confidence in the firm.

Fortis needed the capital after spending 24 billion euros buying ABN Amro Holding NV assets last year just as the U.S. subprime-mortgage market started to collapse. Belgium and Luxembourg also agreed to buy minority stakes in Fortis's banking units in each country as part of the initial rescue.
