Yulia Tymoshenko to alter "anti-flu" information strategy

The Prime Minister has stated that it is essential to alter the anti-flu informational campaign, following evidence of citizens’ increased confidence in the H1N1 flu vaccine.

"We are becoming aware, that vaccination should be delivered at an entirely different level. It is essential to change the current strategy and how the program should be delivered. But the problem that currently exists is based on the lack of confidence in the vaccines. This is a result of several, isolated incidences of negative side-effects. These cases were blown out of all proportion by PR companies,” stated Yulia Tymoshenko during her meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) mission, who are researching the epidemic in Ukraine.

In the opinion of the Head of Government, such an irresponsible and politicized campaign against vaccination has decreased the number of people who routinely receive a vaccination against the seasonal flu and other contagious illnesses. "We will start to advocate in such a way that people will understand, that there is no reasonable alternative," state the head of government.

Yulia Tymoshenko has appealed to the WHO to help develop an effective and evidence-based information campaign.
