WHO recommends Ukraine vaccinate against seasonal flu, H1N1 virus after vaccine becomes available
The World Health Organization has recommended Ukraine continue the vaccination of its population against seasonal flu, and start vaccinating high risk groups against the H1N1 virus as soon as this vaccine is available in Ukraine.

"I would like to support and confirm the statement by the Ukrainian Prime Minister [Yulia Tymoshenko] that the WHO recommends continued vaccination, first against the seasonal flu, and second to carry out vaccination against the pandemic flu, as soon as the pandemic flu vaccine is available in Ukraine," the head of the WHO mission in Ukraine, Jukka Pukkila, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

Pukkila stressed that the WHO would provide all the necessary support for Ukraine to obtain the H1V1 vaccine.

He added that the vaccine wouldn't come in quantities sufficient for everyone. That is why, following the example of other countries, Ukraine should first vaccinate people from high risk groups against the pandemic flu virus, the WHO official said.
